Japanese Edo Lacquer document box c1865 Item # 4258 Japanese Edo Lacquer document box c1865. This is an excellent example of fine lacquer works from the Japanese Edo period in Japan. The inside of the box has a lovely all over design as well as the exterior of the box and its lid. The underside of the lid has a design in gold and lacquer relief depicting turtles,ferns and flowers. The condition is original with some surface impressions on the boxes base from natural wear and a fine line in one of the boxes top corners that can be seen in raking light on the outside but not on the inside.
